Welcome to the next edition of the Community Care News Digest for 2023! In this edition of the News Digest, you will read about all the latest updates, information, resources and events that are happening across the region.

When the Federal Budget for 2023-24 was handed down on 9 May 2023, it showed the sector the gaps as well as opportunities for reform and investment in the aged care sector. The two notable changes were the Government’s commitment to fully funding the 15 per cent wage increase for aged care workers, and the delay of the transition to the Support at Home Program until 1 July 2025. You can read more about the Budget in this edition.

Dementia Australia have an informative program following a mentor framework, where select staff can learn more about how to plan engagement activities for people living with dementia, and can then transfer their knowledge onto other staff in their organisation. Also, in honour of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), ACCPA and Aged Care Advocacy Service Inc are holding events to discuss elder abuse and ageism. More information on all of these can be found in this issue.

Lastly, Western Sydney Community Forum (WSCF) is pleased to announce the names of the panellists in our new CHSP Reform Expert Advisory Panel, which will help to answer questions and concerns and guide providers on the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. This and more reform updates can be found in our Reforms & Transition News section of the News Digest.
