Western Sydney Community Forum (WSCF) Leaders Mixer Summary and Presentation

On 2 June 2022, WSCF held its second Leaders Mixer for the year, for strategic and organisational leaders in greater Western Sydney to engage and network with other regional leaders, consider priorities and solutions across the aged care sector, discuss regional priorities and needs to better support older people, and more. Topics at this Leaders Mixer included lessons learnt from the NDIS transition to inform us in this period of aged care reform, wellness and reablement updates, and learning and training opportunities for sector workers. WestMet Summary and Updates

WSCF attends the WestMet Community Transport Regional Forum with the most recent one having been held on 22 June 2022. There were several updates from multiple organisations, as follows: Community Transport Organisation’s (CTO) online membership renewal process is now open for 2023, and their Strategic Plan 2023 is also available now; CTO is advocating with the University of Wollongong to calculate evidence-based unit costings for providers, as this is an effective method; WSCF is still offering subsidised translations and other support for transport providers. More information will be distributed to WSCF members and subscribers as it comes.

The Department of Health is seeking feedback from website users which will help to guide the design, content and navigation of the aged care information on the Department’s website. The Aged Care Pages Development Survey will be open until Thursday 14 July, 5pm. If there are any enquiries or questions about completing the survey, please email [email protected].

Free Online Elder Abuse Training

Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) is holding a free self-paced online course, the Abuse of the older person: eLearning Program for Health and Aged Care Professionals to assist health, aged care and allied professionals and service providers to respond to instances of elder abuse. This training is made up of three modules which cover various elements of elder abuse, the law and organisational governance, and understanding the rights of older people. This course will allow for approximately 6+ hours of Continuing Professional Development. For any questions, please contact [email protected].

Dementia Prevention Animated Videos in 10 Languages

A series of animated videos have been developed in 10 different languages including Arabic, Tamil and Vietnamese, which are designed to make dementia information more accessible to people from non-English speaking backgrounds. These videos contain information about lifestyle changes and support information for carers of people living with dementia. These videos have been released by Moving Pictures, a project developed through a collaboration between National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) and Curtin University, and co-designed with culturally and linguistically diverse community groups, organisations, services and service users.

Western Sydney Community Forum offers a trusted document translation service for small and large organisations and businesses. We use NAATI-accredited translators with expertise in translating a range of documents to assist with your service delivery, from simple brochures to complex and sensitive publications. Members can access this service at a subsidised cost.
