Foundational supports are foundational to a good life. They are general – for all people with disability, and targeted – for people with lower level support needs who are not eligible for the NDIS. The Australian Government undertook a consultation process on foundational supports from 20 September 2024 until 5 December 2024.
Western Sydney Community Forum (WSCF) welcomed the opportunity to contribute to this process, and put forward three key recommendations for the Government’s consideration:
- Reinstate investment in disability sector support, development and coordination through Regional Social Development Councils
- Adopt a regional, place based approach to deliver and strengthen foundational supports through an integrated, connected service system that is led by communities
- Strengthen and support existing community infrastructure, with a focus on local, trusted, place-based organisations
