Dementia Workshops for Diverse Communities

Canterbury Bankstown Dementia Alliance, Western Sydney University, and Maridulu Budyari Gamal (SPHERE) are offering three free practical and interactive workshops for communities of various languages and cultures, including Vietnamese, Greek and Arabic. These workshops are supported by Canterbury Bankstown Council and funded by SWSPHN. These workshops are for families, health professionals, care staff, and organisations supporting or interacting with people experiencing memory loss or dementia. The workshops will cover 3 key themes including understanding brain and memory, accessibility and enablement, and acceptance and belonging. Free refreshments will be provided, and bookings are essential.

Webinar: Digital Transformation Tech Talk

How Much: Free

A Tech Talk webinar series is being held by the Department of Health and Aged Care’s Digital Transformation program. They will provide updates on the department’s larger data and digital strategy at this webinar, playback on significant digital transformation programs, and address questions. This Tech Talk will be presented by Fay Flevaras who is the First Assistant Secretary of Digital Transformation and Delivery- Aged Care Reform at the Department of Health and Aged Care.

Workshop: Working with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Teams in the Home Care Sector

When: 13 September 2023, 10.00am to 12.00pm

Where: Online

How much: Free for home care providers in NSW and ACT

This workshop will focus on defining diversity and inclusion, a framework for culturally responsive practice, unpacking “culture”, managing unconscious bias, intersectionality, and strategies for building workplace inclusion. This workshop is for managers and team leaders of home care providers in NSW and ACT. Limited seats are available.

LEAD Accidental Counsellor Workshop

When: 9 November 2023, 9.30am to 4.00pm

Where: LEAD Learning Centre, Suite 10, 197 Prospect Highway, Seven Hills, NSW 2147

How much: Member: $90 + GST, Non-member: $150 + GST Aboriginal Workers of TEI Funded Services: FREE

In this workshop, the Lead Learning Centre will help workers who are interacting with people experiencing strong emotions, equip themselves with skills, effective intervention strategies, and tools to better assist people in challenging situations. Bus Industry Taskforce Update and Bus Passenger Forums

The NSW Government has released the first report of the NSW Bus Industry Taskforce, and the Minister Hon Jo Haylen has instructed Transport for NSW to start working to improve bus services around the state. Bus Passenger Forums are also being organised across the state to speak with the community face-to-face on what they want to get from their bus services. In Western Sydney in particular, these forums will be held in Parramatta on 15 September and Macarthur region on 22 September. Parliamentary Secretary for Transport, Dr Marjorie O’Neill, will chair these forums. Members of the public and representatives from community groups, local businesses and non-government organisations are invited to have their say.
